Group 1 Mains aspirants protest day 2 at Gandhinagar, demand exam postponement
Hyderabad: Group 1 Mains aspirants continued their protest for the second consecutive day on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Gandhinagar Park, demanding the rescheduling of the examination originally set for October 21. The aspirants gathered at Gandhinagar Park, voicing concerns over the fairness and timing of the exam amid ongoing legal and procedural uncertainties.
Earlier, the aspirants approached K.T. Rama Rao (KTR), the working president of the BRS Party, via X, requesting his support. They expressed their frustration, stating that “All institutions are compromised” and pledged that the entire Group 1 community would be indebted to him for his assistance.
In response, KTR promised to meet the aspirants either at Ashok Nagar or Telangana Bhavan, asserting that the BRS Party would advocate for justice on their behalf. He further said, “We will continue to remind the Telangana youth how the Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, failed to deliver on the promise of 2 lakh government jobs within one year.”
KTR met with the Group 1 aspirants at Telangana Bhavan on Thursday, where they reiterated their call for him to pressure the state government to postpone the Group 1 exams scheduled for October 21.
The aspirants raised several pressing questions regarding the implications of GO 55, particularly:
- Outcome of GO 55: If the court upholds GO 55, what will happen? Will the government consider re-conducting the Group 1 Mains exam for all candidates or just for those newly eligible under GO 55?
- Potential Court Cancellation: What will be the government's course of action if the court cancels the Group 1 Mains exam? Will there be a complete re-examination for all candidates, or will it be limited to those affected by the changes?
- Fairness for Candidates Under GO 29: What measures will be taken to ensure fairness for candidates previously eligible under GO 29 who may be adversely affected by GO 55? Will there be a normalisation process to balance the changes?
- Hall Ticket Discrepancies: The aspirants also raised concerns about discrepancies in hall ticket numbers between the prelims and mains exams, seeking clarity to maintain trust in the examination process.
The aspirants urged the government to adopt a clear and transparent approach before proceeding with any further steps in the examination process, highlighting that the lives and careers of thousands of students are at stake.
Meanwhile, Telangana Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumar, on October 17, 2024, conducted a video conference with district collectors and the Superintendent of Police regarding the arrangements for the Group 1 Mains exams scheduled to begin on October 21. The meeting included TGSPSC Chairman Mahender Reddy and Telangana DGP Jitender, among other senior officials.
