Google sets up first Asia-Pacific Safety Engineering Center in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Google’s first-ever Safety Engineering Center (GSEC) in the Asia-Pacific region was formally inaugurated in Hyderabad by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy Anumula. The center has been established at the Divyasree building near HITEC City.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said it was a matter of pride that Google chose Hyderabad for this key initiative. “When the question arises about the best destination for investments, the answer is Telangana,” he said.
He added that the Telangana government is already working with Google in various sectors including education, safety, mapping, traffic, startups, and healthcare. “We aspire to provide high standards of living to all sections of society – women, youth, and farmers. We look forward to Google’s continued cooperation in this journey,” he said.
The Chief Minister also outlined the government’s economic goals under the #TelanganaRising initiative, which aims to grow Telangana into a $1 trillion economy by 2035 and $3 trillion by 2047.
He noted the growing importance of cybersecurity and digital infrastructure. “Since Google came into existence, life has gone digital. If the digital ecosystem is secure, we can drive development. We are proud to utilize the Google Cybersecurity Hub to find advanced solutions in digital safety,” he said.
The new center will focus on skill development, job creation, and strengthening India’s cybersecurity capabilities. “Google’s philosophy of ‘Do no evil’ is something I personally admire. Our government also believes in doing good,” the Chief Minister remarked.
Highlighting the long-standing relationship between Google and Hyderabad, he said the tech company began its operations in the city in 2007 and now employs 7,000 people locally. He also mentioned the recently launched Young India Skills University, which aims to provide training to engineering graduates in Telangana.
Senior Google executives including Wilson L. White, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy, and Arijit Sarkar, Vice President of Google Ad Spaces, attended the event.
