Google Maps misguides driver, 19 workers injured in Shamirpet
Hyderabad: A wrong route suggested by Google Maps led to a serious road accident involving migrant workers in Jangaon(Janagama) district on Sunday morning. The mishap occurred near Shamirpet bypass on the Siddipet main road. Police said 19 fish workers from Kailuru mandal in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh, along with their driver, were travelling in a Bolero to Sangareddy district of Telangana. They had been hired on a daily wage of Rs1,000 to catch fish in local tanks and load them into vehicles.
The driver, relying solely on Google Maps, followed a straight route indicated near the Shamirpet bypass. With no warning signs at the spot and large pits on both sides of the turning, he lost control of the speeding vehicle. The Bolero overturned, leaving the sleeping workers injured.
Those hurt include Bali Manikyam, Saidu Venkata Narayana, Gantasala Radhakrishna, Bale Harinath, Gantasala Venkanna, Emmanuel, Bale Ravikumar, Gantasala Renuka, Gantasala Sai, Mungara Satyanarayana, K. Esobu, Saidu Harischandra, Nadugari Adesh, Nabigar Nagaraju, Saidu Venkata Narayana, Eduri Nallayya, Bale Manikyam, Bale Ravikumar and Bale Manikantha.
Two critically injured, shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad
Locals rushed to help and alerted ambulance services. All the injured were shifted to the district government general hospital. Harischandra and Satyanarayana, who sustained severe head and body injuries and fell unconscious, were given preliminary treatment and later shifted to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. The rest are under treatment at the Jangaon( Janagama) hospital.
