‘Glass of Water’ campaign: TGPWU calls for heat relief for gig & platform workers in Telangana
Hyderabad: As temperatures in Telangana and several parts of India cross 44 degrees Celsius, the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) has launched a public awareness campaign titled “Dear Customer, Glass of Water.”
Led by Founder President Shaik Salauddin, the campaign urges customers to offer a simple gesture, a glass of water, to delivery workers and cab drivers working in extreme heat.
“These workers face intense heat while delivering orders or transporting passengers. Many experience dehydration, heat exhaustion, and even heat strokes,” said Salauddin. “We’re asking the public to recognize their effort and offer a glass of water.”
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the impact of extreme heat on gig and platform workers, who often spend long hours outdoors without adequate protection or access to water.
It also encourages customers to support workers through small, meaningful acts of kindness, like offering water, which can make a significant difference during heat waves.
In addition, TGPWU is using the campaign to call for stronger protections and safety measures from platform companies and local authorities. The union is demanding heat relief kits, rest stations, access to drinking water, and emergency medical support for workers.
The campaign shows TGPWU’s ongoing efforts to push for more dignified and humane working conditions for gig and platform workers across India.
