GHMC collaborates with RWAs to address garbage issue with CCTV cameras
Hyderabad: Daily thousands of sanitation workers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) clean the streets and roads and yet we see garbage-strewn roads in Hyderabad. No prizes for guesses as to how the garbage returns on the roads.
During the BRS regime, the corporation distributed two dustbins to every household in the city limits. Area-wise garbage collection vehicles collect the trash on alternate days for a nominal fee.
However, it is mostly the garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) that need the attention of sanitary inspectors. The civic body has already installed CCTV cameras in some parts of the city. The officials analyze the footage of the GVPs and identify the culprit and issue a hefty challan to the violators.
Locals have complained to the civic authorities about those who throw garbage on the streets. The civic authorities also tried every trick in the book to identify and penalise the garbage throwers but it did not work.
Now, the corporation officials are taking the help of members of Residential Welfare Association (RWAs) and installing CCTV cameras in the vicinity to track the violators in the GHMC Uppal Circle.
Explaining the operation of CCTV cameras, the officials said the camera will first warn the potential violator and if he does not pay heed and deliberately litters the street or road with the trash, it will capture his image and send it to the regional civic office systems. Subsequently, the authorities will issue a Rs. 1000 challan to the violator.
