GHMC & HYDRAA form committees to address flooding, fire accidents ahead of Monsoon

Hyderabad is gearing up for the monsoon season by implementing a comprehensive strategy to prevent flooding and fire accidents. The city's Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have formed joint committees to address these challenges. A fire prevention committee will work to identify high-risk areas, understand the causes of fire incidents, and raise awareness among residents. They will also conduct safety inspections. To combat flooding, the committees will focus on clearing drains and culverts, identifying catchment areas for floodwater, and utilizing modern technology to ensure efficient water flow. The collaborative approach aims to minimize the impact of monsoon-related problems in Hyderabad, ensuring a safer and smoother season for its residents.

The two committees will meet regularly to ensure smooth coordination. They will work to identify areas with frequent fire incidents, understand their causes, and raise awareness among residents. Inspections will begin in high-risk areas, with a focus on ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

The commissioners also reviewed the 141 flood-prone areas and discussed using modern technology to clear drains, culverts, and catchment areas to maintain proper water flow. They highlighted the importance of identifying catchment areas to direct floodwater to nearby lakes. Zonal-level committees will address local issues, ensuring a more effective response. This coordinated approach aims to prevent both flooding and fire accidents in the city.
