GHMC invites bids for multi-level flyovers in IT corridor
Hyderabad: Weeks after it approved the development of multi-level flyovers in the city, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has set the plan in motion to address the traffic issues by constructing multi-level flyovers at International Institute of Information Technology (Hyderabad) Junction and Khajaguda Junction.
With an allocation of Rs. 459 crore, the IIIT junction is said to be the most expensive bridge project in the city. The junction will have a multi-level flyover and grade separator. Under this project, the road stretch from Cyberabad commissionerate to Gachibowli junction will be widened and developed into a 215-foot road while a 150-foot road will be constructed from Anjaiah Nagar to Ramky Tower.
To ease the traffic congestion at Khajaguda junction, the authorities have planned to build a three-lane flyover from Nanakramguda to Tolichowki and a three-lane underpass from Tolichowki to Biodiversity Junction.
These two projects are being developed with an estimated cost of around Rs. 650 crore. The GHMC has invited bids from eligible agencies for carrying out works at these sites such as surveying, investigation, detailed design and construction.
These two projects are being taken up under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) initiative, which is a major initiative aimed at reshaping the city’s urban landscape.
The initiative is aimed at easing traffic congestion, smoothening traffic flow and improving urban connectivity by implementing multiple infrastructure developments, including flyovers, underpasses, and road widening projects across the city.
Earlier, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) carried out a comprehensive traffic study and identified critical congestion points and traffic bottlenecks across the city.
