GHMC assistant city planner arrested for demanding Rs. 8 lakh bribe in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) conducted multiple operations across Telangana and arrested four government officials on bribery charges on May 23, 2025.

GHMC Official Arrested in Secunderabad

Vittal Rao, Assistant City Planner at the GHMC Zonal Office, Secunderabad Zone, was arrested for demanding a bribe of ₹8 lakh to process two occupancy certificate applications related to apartments submitted by a complainant. He had already received ₹4 lakh and was demanding the remaining amount when the trap was laid. The officer was taken into custody and will be produced before the Principal Special Judge for ACB cases at Nampally, Hyderabad. The case is under investigation.

 Mandal Officer Held in Medak

In another case, Vittal Reddy, Mandal Panchayat Officer (in-charge MPDO) of Shankarampet (A) Mandal, Medak District, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000. The amount was allegedly demanded to issue a cheque related to CC drain construction under a 15th Finance Commission grant sanctioned for ₹1,95,747. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and will be presented before the I Additional Special Judge for ACB cases in Nampally. The investigation is ongoing.

 Prosecutor and Police Constable Caught in Kamareddy

At Kamareddy, two officials were arrested for accepting a bribe to influence a court trial. Assistant Public Prosecutor Guguloth Ashok Shiva Ram Naik allegedly demanded ₹15,000, later reduced to ₹10,000, to expedite a trial and ensure an acquittal in a case registered under Section 420 IPC (Crime No. 375/2018) at Kamareddy Town Police Station. The bribe was accepted through Police Constable Nimma Sanjay, from whose possession the cash was recovered. Both have been arrested and will be produced before the II Additional Special Judge for ACB cases at Nampally. The complainant’s identity has been withheld for security reasons. 

The ACB has urged citizens to report any demand for bribes by public servants. Complaints can be made via the ACB's toll-free number 1064 or through WhatsApp at 9440446106. The bureau is also accessible on Facebook (Telangana ACB) and X (formerly Twitter) @TelanganaACB. Complainant identities will be kept confidential. All cases are under investigation.
