Hyderabad: Residents of Seetha Nagar in Shaikpet have raised concerns over the open dumping of garbage in their area. The accumulation of waste has become a growing problem, with residents urging the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to address the issue before it turns into a large garbage dump. The community has called for a permanent solution, including regular cleaning and the planting of saplings to improve the environment.

The issue was highlighted by a local resident, Naresh Cherish (@NareshCherish), on X (formerly Twitter), who posted, “Hi @GHMCOnline, before this area turns into another dump yard, we need a permanent solution to clean and plant saplings. Location: Seetha Nagar, Shaikpet. @CommissionrGHMC @gadwalvijayainc @Hyderabad_Mail @HiHyderabad.”

In response, the GHMC acknowledged the concern and assured that the sanitation team would address the garbage issue. The tweet from GHMC read: “Dear Citizen, Your concern has been forwarded to the sanitation team to clear the garbage. @Dc10bG @amoh18ghmc.”

In a separate issue, residents in Vinayak Nagar, also in Shaikpet, have reported heavy sewerage overflow, particularly during the ongoing Bonalu festival. Local resident Maryala Ajay Kumar (@ajaymaryala) raised the issue on social media, requesting the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to remove silt from the manholes along the stretch to prevent further complications.

The HMWSSB responded promptly, stating: “Good morning sir. Complaint Token No. 1909 has been registered and assigned to the Shaikpet section manager for rectification. You will be informed once the issue is resolved. Thank you for your patience.”

Residents experiencing similar water or sewerage problems can reach out to HMWSSB through their customer service at 155313 or 040-23300114, or via social media platforms on X. Concerns related to garbage can be directed to GHMC through their official handle on X (@GHMCOnline).

The HMWSSB, responsible for managing water supply and sewerage services in Hyderabad, was established in 1989. The GHMC, which oversees the city's municipal services, serves a population of 7.9 million across 650 square kilometers.
