Hyderabad: A growing mound of garbage and construction debris in Hyderabad’s IT corridor has triggered widespread concern among residents and social media users. The issue, located near Shilpa Layout 2 and behind the IKEA store, has drawn criticism for the lack of action by civic authorities.

The matter was first highlighted by Hyderabad Mojo (@HyderabadMojo) on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “A garbage mountain growing between the shiny glass buildings, in what is supposed to be the city's most premier business district. There's a mountain of construction debris as well nearby, behind IKEA. Pathetic state of affairs. @GHMC / @HMDA_Gov, how are you allowing this?”

In a follow-up post, the account added, “Some new context, appears to have started as rubble from nearby building demolitions (for redevelopment). Then probably started attracting regular garbage as well. Regardless, it's been like this for a while now and needs to be cleaned/levelled asap. Same for the fill behind IKEA, which is excavation debris. Both sites seem to be part of the disputed Shilpa Layout 2.”

Several citizens have since echoed similar concerns. Srinivas R posted, “These @GHMCOnline guys cannot even lay a road in Mothinagar. We've been complaining about accidents due to poor road connectivity from Kalpataru Residency in Erragadda to the Bharath Nagar flyover. No road at all. They tag inactive accounts and take no action.”

In response, the GHMC’s official handle replied, “Dear Citizen, inconvenience regretted. The area engineering team has been informed to inspect the site and update the status. @DyC_Yousufguda @EE_Yousufguda.”

Another user, Sunil K, wrote, “This was a vacant land marked for a park in Shilpa Layout. Over time, it turned into a debris dump. Now it looks like a tower. Right next to it is one of the costliest villa communities in the city.”

A different user commented, “Now GHMC will paint tigers, lions, and crocodiles on it to hide it. In engineering, they say an engineer’s mistake becomes a monument, this is becoming one.” Varun Pandae noted, “Right in front of Deloitte, the garbage is already six or seven floors high.”

NN_17 added, “This is the situation everywhere. At Ghatkesar exit no. 9, there's a large dump where stone was excavated. It’s now filled with burning garbage. Ground and air pollution are at dangerous levels.”

The debris and garbage mounds have raised larger questions about urban waste management and the enforcement of zoning rules in one of Hyderabad’s most high-profile commercial and residential corridors.
