Hyderabad: A local court has sentenced a man to five years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹25,000 for cultivating ganja plants in Sangareddy district.

The verdict was delivered on Thursday by a First-Class Magistrate in a case that dates back to 2001, when Circle Inspector Madhubabu was posted at the Dhoolpet Excise Station. The accused, Manneraamulu, a resident of Munipally village in Sangareddy Mandal, was found growing 36 ganja plants in his field. Acting on a tip-off, CI Madhubabu uprooted the plants, registered a case, and filed a chargesheet.

Following the court's decision, Manneraamulu was taken into custody and sent to jail by Constable CH Ramesh.

In a separate operation, the Special Task Force (STF) and Dhoolpet Excise staff conducted checks along Karwan Road and Raheem Pura in Dhoolpet. Two individuals were caught selling ganja and taken into custody. Authorities seized 2.494 kilograms of ganja, two mobile phones, and two scooters during the operation.

A total of seven people have been booked in connection with the case. Two were Amar Singh and Dhanunjay, have been arrested. The others, Tulja Singh, Kishan, Vamshi, Sonu, and Shobhaiah, are currently absconding, according to STF team leader Anjireddy. The arrested individuals and seized items were handed over to Dhoolpet Excise Station.
