Four-year-old boy dies after getting trapped in lift at Hyderabad apartment

Hyderabad: A four-and-a-half-year-old boy died after getting stuck in a lift at Mujtaba Apartment in Santosh Nagar Colony, Mehdipatnam, on the night of March 12, 2025.

The boy, who has been identified as Surender, was the son of Shyam Bahadur, a security guard at the building. According to the reports, the family, originally from Nepal, had moved to Hyderabad seven months ago in search of better opportunities. They lived in a small room next to the lift in the six-storey building, which serves as a hostel.

Around 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Surender was playing near the lift when he reportedly became trapped in the lift’s grill. His parents, realizing he was missing, began searching for him and found him unconscious and bleeding inside the lift after about 10 minutes. They immediately alerted the police and rushed him to a nearby private hospital. However, he was declared dead on arrival.

The incident has left the family devastated, with Surender’s parents, Shyam Bahadur and his wife, struggling to cope with the loss.

This tragedy comes just weeks after a similar incident in Hyderabad. On February 22, 2025, a six-year-old boy, Arnav, was trapped in a lift shaft at Maffer Comfortech Apartments in Shantinagar. Arnav had slipped while playing with other children and fell into a gap between the lift and the slab near the first floor.

Despite a successful rescue operation led by the Disaster Response Force and Fire Department, Arnav's condition worsened, and he passed away on February 24, 2025, while undergoing treatment at Niloufer Hospital.
