Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions' kitchen in Madhapur found with serious food safety violations

On January 24, 2025, Telangana State Food Safety officials conducted a surprise inspection of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutes' Central Kitchen in Hyderabad. They found numerous violations, including: Lack of documentation: No water analysis reports, pest control records, or Fostac certificates for employees were available. Unsanitary conditions: Refrigerators were unclean, the kitchen floor was wet and had food waste, broken drains lacked insect prevention measures, and the exhaust system was dirty. Poor storage: Unlabeled Nut Meg was found, food items were stored on the ground, and food and non-food items were stored together. Expired food: 125 kg of Kaju Nuka, expired on January 17, 2025, was seized. Pest infestation: Live cockroaches and rodent feces were found, with no rodent traps present. Unsafe practices: Food handlers lacked protective gear, and the kitchen's 12 transport vehicles were not included in the FSSAI license. Hyderabad: On January 24, 2025, the Telangana State Commissioner of Food Safetyโ€™s Task Force conducted a surprise inspection at the Central Kitchen of Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutes, operated by Sri Vasista Educational Trust in Khanamet, Madhapur.

The food safety team reported several violations observed during their inspection. They noted that water analysis reports, pest control records, and Fostac certificates for employees were not available. Additionally, the refrigerators were improperly cleaned, leading to unsanitary conditions. The kitchen floor exhibited patchy wet areas, with food waste scattered around.

During the inspection, it was uncovered that the kitchen had several broken drains, some of which did not have meshes installed to prevent insect entry. The walls exhibited damage, including broken tiles and a significant grease buildup. The exhaust system was noted to be dirty, and dustbins were found left open. Additionally, the doors failed to seal properly, allowing pests easy access, and the grills situated between the walls and ceiling were missing protective meshes.

Packed Nut Meg, which was unlabeled, was also found during the inspection. Many food items were stored on the ground instead of on pallets, and food and non-food items were stored together. A batch of Kaju Nuka (125 kg) that expired on January 17, 2025, was seized.

Officials observed a live cockroach infestation in the storage area and rodent feces. No rodent traps were found, and the storage walls were also in poor condition. Food handlers worked without proper protective gear, such as aprons and gloves.

Additionally, the inspection revealed that the kitchenโ€™s 12 transport vehicles were not included in the FSSAI license, and there was no separate FSSAI license for them.
