Food safety violations found at Hotel Sweekar & Swathi in Santosh Nagar
Hyderabad: A task force from the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety conducted inspections at several food establishments in Santosh Nagar on November 2, 2024. The inspections revealed multiple food safety violations at Hotel Sweekar, Swathi Hotel, and Hotel Sri Raghavendra Udipi.
Hotel Sweekar
Food safety officials found several violations at Hotel Sweekar. Authorities found that the establishment had not displayed the mandatory FSSAI license, and the food handlers did not possess valid medical fitness certificates.
Hygiene conditions in the kitchen were also found to be substandard, with peeling paint and plaster on the walls and ceiling. The kitchen floor was described as slippery and patchy, with water stagnation in several areas.
The establishment also had a live cockroach infestation in the kitchen racks. Further violations included the absence of insect-proof screens on doors and windows, and food handlers were observed working without required headgear, caps, or aprons.
The inspection team also found that Malabar parotas, which had expired, were still on the premises and were discarded immediately. In terms of food storage, there was a noticeable gap between walls and rice bags in the storeroom, and vegetables like onions and potatoes were improperly stored directly on the floor. Additionally, the kitchen lacked dustbins, further compromising sanitation.

Swathi Hotel
Meanwhile, similar issues were observed at the Swathi Hotel. Inspectors noted that the FSSAI license was again not displayed, and medical fitness certificates for food handlers were missing. There was a discrepancy between the display board, which listed the hotel as Swathi Hotel, and the FSSAI license, which mentioned Hotel Swagath.
The kitchen's sanitary conditions were also concerning, with broken wall tiles in the rice preparation area and a patchy, waterlogged floor. The establishment lacked properly fitted insect-proof screens on windows and doors.
Inspectors discovered synthetic food colours being used in the kitchen, which were immediately discarded as they posed a potential health risk. Furthermore, food stored in the refrigerator was found uncovered and unlabeled, while food grain bags were stored with gaps between the walls.
Food handlers at Swathi Hotel were also found to be in violation of basic hygiene protocols, as they were not wearing head caps, gloves, or aprons. The inspection team also found open dustbins in the kitchen, with gunny bags being used as makeshift bins.
