Food safety officials inspect 10 Absolute Barbeque outlets in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Food Safety Task Force and Food Safety Officers (FSOs) inspected 10 outlets of Absolute Barbeque across Hyderabad on September 9, 2025, following a consumer complaint submitted to the Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana. The outlets inspected were located in AS Rao Nagar, Kompally, Medipally, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Gachibowli, Inorbit, Miyapur, Vanasthalipuram, and Secunderabad.
Complaint led to inspections
Officials said the inspection was initiated after a formal complaint reached the Commissioner’s office about alleged food safety and hygiene concerns at several Absolute Barbeque restaurants in the city. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the task force and FSOs are empowered to conduct such checks in response to consumer complaints.
During the inspections, officials found unclean utensils, unhygienic flooring, and dirty wash areas at some outlets. Similar large-scale drives in Hyderabad have earlier flagged poor kitchen hygiene, unsafe storage, and lapses in food handler practices.
Absolute Barbeque, known for its “do-it-yourself” grill dining model, has expanded rapidly in Hyderabad in recent years. Authorities said the scale of operations makes consistent monitoring essential. Food safety authorities emphasised that consumers can file complaints directly with the Commissioner of Food Safety, which then triggers surprise inspections and enforcement measures.
