Hyderabad: The Telangana State Commissioner of Food Safety's Task Force team conducted surprise inspections at several restaurants in the Lakdikapul area, uncovering a series of food safety violations on November 26, 2024. The inspections targeted the establishments Khan-E-Khas, Shahi Dastarkhan, and Bademiyan Kababs.

The raid at Khan-E-Khas revealed that the food business operator (FBO) was operating without a valid FSSAI license. Leftover food from the previous day was discovered in the kitchen and discarded on the spot.

Furthermore, key documentation, including pest control records, medical fitness certificates, and water analysis reports, were missing.

The premises showed several cleanliness issues, including patchy flooring with broken tiles and stagnant water. The kitchen was not fitted with an insect-proof screen, allowing for the potential entry of pests.

A refrigerator was found in unhygienic conditions, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian items stored together. Rat fecal matter was observed on shelves used to store raw food materials, raising concerns about a possible rat infestation.

Additionally, the kitchen design lacked adequate space for proper cleaning and food preparation processes.

Shahi Dastarkhan, Lakdikapul

At Shahi Dastarkhan, inspectors found greasy walls and a ceiling with shedding particles. The flooring was patchy with broken tiles and stagnant water, and the kitchen was also not equipped with insect-proof screens. A live cockroach infestation was discovered inside the kitchen on the first floor.

Expired food items, including Mango Masala, Coconut Milk, and Keora Water, were found in the storeroom and discarded on the spot. The drains in the premises were observed to be clogged, with food waste accumulating and causing water stagnation. However, the FBO had maintained the necessary medical fitness certificates for its staff.

Bademiyan Kababs, Lakdikapul

The inspection at Bademiyan Kababs revealed that the FBO had not displayed a copy of the food license on the premises. Cobwebs were observed inside the kitchen, and food articles inside the refrigerator were not properly labelled.

The establishment was also lacking pest control records, medical fitness certificates, and water analysis reports. Synthetic food colours, suspected to have been used in kababs and Chinese dishes, were discovered and discarded.

Food handlers were found working without hair caps or gloves, violating hygiene standards. The premises were open to the outside environment and lacked proper insect-proof screening to prevent the entry of pests and dust.
