Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau Flags Concerns Over “Ghaati” Trailer
The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau has raised objections over the trailer of the upcoming Telugu film Ghaati, directed by Krish Jagarlamudi and starring Anushka Shetty. Produced by Yeduguru Rajeev Reddy and Saibabu Jagarlamudi under First Frame Entertainments, the film’s trailer reportedly depicts cannabis cultivation, transport and consumption without statutory warnings against drug abuse.
Legal reference and public appeal
Officials pointed out that under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, operations such as cultivation of cannabis, production, possession, sale, purchase, transportation and consumption of narcotics are strictly prohibited. They warned that portraying a protagonist involved in narcotics trade without disclaimers risks glamorizing such activities and could adversely influence youth.
The Bureau urged the filmmakers to include scrolling statutory messages such as “Ganja is banned in India and is extremely harmful to health” in all drug-related scenes and to ensure that the film does not promote or endorse illegal acts. They cautioned that non-compliance may attract legal action under the NDPS Act.
The statement, issued in public interest, was signed by the Director, Telangana EAGLE (Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau).
