Five LB Nagar youths dead after car plunges into Jalalpur Lake near Yadagirigutta
Hyderabad: Five youths lost their lives and one survived after their car plunged into Jalalpur Lake near Yadagirigutta under the jurisdiction of Pochampally Police Station, in the Rachakonda Commissionerate early on Saturday morning, December 7, 2024. The incident occurred at approximately 5 a.m., and the Pochampally Police Station was alerted with an emergency call at 5:27 a.m.
According to preliminary investigations, the victims, aged between 19 and 23, were suspected to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The lone survivor, Manikanta Medaboina Yadav, a 21-year-old resident of Boduppal, provided details about the tragic event.
The victims have been identified as Vamsi Goud, (23), a photographer from RTC Colony in LB Nagar; Dignesh (21); Harsha (21); and Ballu (19), all from LB Nagar. The survivor, Manikanta, hails from Ramannapeta but resides in Boduppal.
According to the survivor, the group had been drinking beer the previous night and were on their way to consume toddy early in the morning. While negotiating a curve near Jalalpur Lake, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which subsequently plunged into the lake.
Police officials from Pochampally Police Station, along with rescue teams, rushed to the scene. The bodies of the deceased were recovered and transported to Bhongir Area Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the accident's circumstances. Authorities are verifying the survivor’s statement and conducting toxicology tests to confirm the presence of alcohol.
