Surge in firecracker injuries reported at Hyderabad hospital during Diwali
Hyderabad: Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in Hyderabad has received more than 18 cases related to injuries caused by firecrackers during Diwali celebrations. Among the injured, one patient's condition is critical, and further cases are expected as more individuals seek treatment.
Patients are arriving not only from Hyderabad but also from across Telangana, reporting a range of injuries. Many are suffering from eye-related issues, while others have sustained burns to their hands and legs.
As in previous years, this year also the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital has mobilised a large team of medical staff to provide care during the festive period, ensuring that those affected receive prompt treatment. Authorities urge the public to exercise caution while celebrating and to prioritise safety during the festivities.
Earlier, the Cyberabad Police announced on Wednesday that, to maintain public order and tranquility during the Deepavali Festival from October 31 to November 2, 2024, Commissioner of Police Avinash Mohanty has issued a notification prohibiting the bursting of fireworks and firecrackers on public roads and in public places. This ban applies within the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.
Fireworks will only be permitted between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., and noise levels from any firecrackers, drums, or other instruments during this time must adhere to the permissible limits established by the Pollution Control Board.
The orders will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. on October 31, 2024, until 6:00 a.m. on November 2, 2024, in light of the Deepavali Festival.
