Fire safety concerns prompt Rajendra Nagar residents to demand godown removal
Hyderabad: Residents of Golden City, located near Pillar No. 248 in Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad, are raising alarm over the presence of unauthorized godowns in their residential colony. The godowns, which are reportedly operating without fire safety measures or valid trade certificates, pose a serious risk to the safety of residents.
Patel, a concerned local, took to social media to highlight the issue. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Day 01: Hi @GHMCOnline. We are from Golden City (Pillar No. 248, Rajendra Nagar). On December 16, 2024, we submitted a Prajavani application regarding the unauthorized godowns. We were assured that notices would be issued soon and that the godowns would either be vacated or seized. However, no action has been taken even after three weeks. I will continue reminding you every day to see if anyone cares for the citizens.” Patel tagged the GHMC Mayor and Commissioner in the post.
Day 02:
Status: GHMC acknowlegdged that there is a problem but we are still far from solution.
Even after 23 days of submitting Prajavani application, GHMC didn't act on this issue...#JaagoGHMCJaago@gadwalvijayainc @CommissionrGHMC @DCRajendraNaga1 @ZC_Charminar… https://t.co/q3GF0pjWmo

In response, GHMC Online acknowledged the issue, stating, “Dear Citizen, We understand your concern regarding the unauthorized godowns in Golden City. We will escalate this matter to the concerned authorities to ensure action is taken as per the rules.”

However, despite the acknowledgment, no further action was taken, prompting Patel to post again, “Day 02: Status: GHMC acknowledged the problem, but we are still far from a solution. Even after 23 days of submitting the Prajavani application, GHMC has not acted on this issue. #JaagoGHMCJaago.”
Speaking to Hyderabad Mail, Patel explained, “Our colony, Golden City (Pillar No. 248), is primarily residential. However, some vacant lands have been rented out to unauthorized godowns. These godowns do not have fire safety measures in place, and there have been previous incidents of fire accidents in these structures. We’ve informed GHMC multiple times, but no action has been taken.”
Patel added that the Golden City Welfare Association had also written to the Deputy Commissioner of Rajendra Nagar Division, GHMC, urging immediate action. The letter, which raised concerns over the godowns operating in the middle of a residential area, read, “In light of recent fire incidents in godowns across the city, our area (Golden City, Pillar No. 248) also has several unauthorized godowns without fire safety measures, posing a serious threat to residents. We request that GHMC issue notices to vacate these godowns as soon as possible.”
As of now, no official response has been provided regarding the status of the action requested by the residents. The issue remains unresolved, and concerns continue to grow over the safety risks posed by the unauthorized godowns.
