Inferno near newly opened Amberpet flyover in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out near the newly inaugurated Amberpet flyover in Hyderabad on Tuesday, causing panic among commuters and locals. The fire erupted in sheds storing construction materials under the flyover at the Number 6 junction in Amberpet. Thick smoke billowed into the air and engulfed the flyover triggering a traffic jam in the area.

Upon receiving the information, firefighters and police rushed to the spot and are trying to control the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Due to the dense smoke, traffic movement has been severely disrupted in the area.

This incident comes just days after the Amberpet flyover was opened for the convenience of motorists on February 26, 2025. Union Minister Kishan Reddy inaugurated the flyover on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.

The flyover covers the stretch between Golnaka and Purnodaya colony, near MCH Quarters. According to the officials, the flyover will reduce travel time for motorists entering the city from the Warangal Highway. It was built at a cost of Rs. 450 crore. The civic body spent Rs. 300 crore for acquiring land for the construction of the flyover.

The construction works on the Amberpet flyover started in 2018 with an initial budget of Rs. 216 crore. The Central government had initially sanctioned Rs. 76.33 crore towards construction. The construction work began in 2021 and the project was set for completion in 2023. However, it got delayed due to various reasons.
