Officials deployed four fire engines to control the blaze, which quickly spread across the third floor, intensified by the presence of a plastic storage unit in the building. Firefighters managed to control the flames before they reached the shops on the ground floor, preventing further damage.

Preliminary investigations by fire officials indicate that a short circuit caused the fire. Efforts were underway to fully extinguish the blaze.

This incident follows a recent fire tragedy in Puppalaguda, Manikonda, on the evening of February 28, 2025, where three people lost their lives due to smoke inhalation.

The victims, identified as Jameela Khatun (65), Shahana Khatun (30), and Shiraj Khatoon (4), were trapped on the first floor of a two-story building when smoke from a fire in the parking area filled the structure. The fire, also caused by a short circuit, destroyed two cars and filled the building with thick smoke.

The victims reportedly locked themselves inside a room in an attempt to escape, but lack of ventilation led to suffocation. HYDRAA Disaster Response Force and fire personnel conducted rescue operations, but all three were declared dead at the scene.

Regional Fire Officer Jayaprakash confirmed that the deaths were due to carbon monoxide inhalation and advised the public to evacuate buildings immediately when fires occur. He warned against using elevators during a fire and stressed the danger of smoke inhalation.

In light of recent incidents, HYDRAA has issued summer fire safety guidelines:

  • Use only ISI-marked electrical appliances.
  • Avoid damaged wires and overloading circuits.
  • Do not use multi-plug adapters excessively.
  • Switch off appliances and lights when not in use.
  • Keep flammable materials away from active stoves.
