NTR stadium turns into dumping yard, locals urge GHMC to clean up
Hyderabad: NTR stadium near Indira Park, spread over an area of 11 acres, has been a venue for various cultural activities and programmes in Hyderabad.
As the open space lies in the heart of the city, several programmes such as Hyderabad Book Fair, Sankranti festivities and religious events are conducted at the stadium.
Recently, the National Book Fair, held at the stadium drew the ire of locals and daily walkers as the ground was littered with papers, banner material and other disposables.
Now, the locals and walkers are facing another issue – the stadium is slowly turning into an unofficial dumping yard. The boundary area of the ground is filled with construction material, abandoned vehicles and debris.
Earlier, someone threw small packets of garbage. Over the weeks, the trash has been piling up near the boundary of the ground. The foul smell and lack of cleanliness are causing severe inconvenience to joggers and visitors, the locals said.
Some locals have taken to social media to raise their concerns as the civic authorities are allegedly not doing anything to resolve the issue.
The stadium is visited by not only children to play games but it is also a favorite place of athletes and health conscious walkers. Many complained that with the corners of the ground filled with debris and trash, some people have also started urinating in the area. The foul smell is becoming unbearable each day.
With filth and accumulated garbage, the stadium has now become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Locals and walkers have requested GHMC to clear the debris and trash from the ground and ensure proper maintenance.
