Two injured in stair collapse; HYDRAA demolishes dilapidated structure at Fatehnagar bridge
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the site of a stair collapse at the Fatehnagar bridge on Tuesday morning, May 27, 2025, following an incident that left two people seriously injured the previous day.
The stairway, in a dilapidated condition, collapsed on Monday while the victims were descending. During Tuesday’s inspection, local residents informed the Commissioner that the stairs see heavy foot traffic every Sunday due to a weekly market in Sanathnagar.
Acknowledging the danger, Commissioner Ranganath declared the stairs unsafe and directed HYDRAA officials to demolish them immediately. He also instructed the department to conduct inspections, with the help of civil engineering experts, of all unsafe structures across the city to prevent further incidents. Following the orders, HYDRAA’s Disaster Response team used a JCB machine to demolish the damaged staircase. Fatehnagar Corporator Satish Goud confirmed that new stairs would be constructed at the site.
HYDRAA restores access to Secunderabad school following wall removal
In a separate incident, HYDRAA acted swiftly to clear a blocked path leading to the Government Primary School in Doodh Bowli, Chilakalguda, Mettuguda Division, Secunderabad. The action followed a protest by the school’s headmaster, Mallikarjun Reddy, who held a placard outside the GHMC Zonal Office on Monday, appealing for access to the school.
Responding to the protest, Commissioner Ranganath ordered a field inspection. Inspector Aditya, along with GHMC Town Planning ACP Srinivas and his team, supervised the removal of a wall that had been built by local residents, obstructing the school’s entrance. Zonal Commissioner Ravi Kiran stated that a gate would be installed immediately at the cleared site to ensure continued access.
