Jeedimetla Police nab two Andhra men in fake naxal extortion plot with 13 bombs
Hyderabad: The Jeedimetla Police on May 28, 2025, have arrested two men who attempted to extort ₹50 lakh from a local resident by posing as Naxalites. The accused, identified as Yerramsetty Raju, 33, and Kandurelli Raju, 24, both originally from Gannavaram in Andhra Pradesh and temporarily residing in Shapur Nagar, were caught with 13 country-made bombs, four mobile phones, and a threatening letter.
The case came to light on May 22 when Kuna Raghavender Goud filed a complaint with the Jeedimetla Police. He stated that his father, Ravinder Goud, had discovered their Tulasi plant uprooted and a red-coloured towel and letter placed on their car. The letter, written in the name of Naxalites, demanded ₹50 lakh and threatened death if the money was not paid.
Police quickly launched an investigation. With support from over 500 CCTV camera reviews and multiple field teams, they identified two suspects seen visiting the complainant’s home. After tracing their movements and receiving credible information, the police located the suspects hiding in the HMT forest area. They were apprehended in the early hours of May 28.
Upon interrogation, the accused admitted to the crime. According to their statements, both men were facing financial distress and decided to impersonate Naxalites to extort money from a financially stable individual.
Yerramsetty Raju, who has a criminal record for property offences registered at Gannavaram Police Station, had been unemployed since losing his private sector job three months ago. To intensify their threats, the duo travelled to Vizianagaram where they assembled improvised explosive devices. They returned to Hyderabad with the intention of planting and detonating one of the bombs at the complainant’s residence on May 28, hoping to scare the victim into compliance.
The police seized the bombs and mobile phones used in the crime, along with the original threatening letter. The arrests were made under the direct supervision of ACP Naresh Reddy. Jeedimetla SHO G. Mallesh, DI S. Kanakaiah, SI Prem Sagar, and constables Naresh, Ravi Naik, and Venkatesh played key roles in tracking and capturing the suspects.
The coordinated effort by the Jeedimetla Police not only led to the arrest of the culprits but also averted a potentially dangerous situation. Further investigation is ongoing.
