Excise team seizes 233 bottles of foreign liquor smuggled from Delhi in Hyderabad; 2 held
Hyderabad: The Excise Enforcement B Team in Hyderabad conducted a successful operation, seizing 233 bottles of foreign liquor from a warehouse near Basheerbagh. The operation, led by CI Chandrashekar Goud, took place at the Tata Water Agency warehouse located near the Café Bahar restaurant.
The seizure included 174.5 liters of liquor, consisting of 24 different types of foreign alcohol, valued at approximately ₹9,68,150 based on Telangana’s liquor prices. In addition to the liquor, authorities confiscated a car, ₹35,000 in cash, and two mobile phones. Two individuals, Harish Kumar Hirwani and Williams Joseph, were arrested in connection with the illegal liquor trade.
One of the arrested individuals, Harish Kumar Hirwani, had been involved in the liquor business in the past. According to the investigation, Harish Kumar Hirwani had been importing foreign liquor from Delhi to his warehouse for the last 14 months after failing to secure a liquor shop in recent tenders. He reportedly made a profit of ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 per bottle.
Along with Hirwani and Joseph, cases have been filed against three Delhi-based liquor traders, Deepak, Dharmabatti, and Sunil.
Excise Enforcement Deputy Commissioner K. A. B. Shastri and Enforcement Commissioner Anil Kumar Reddy confirmed the team's successful operation. The team received praise from Excise Enforcement Director V. B. Kamalhasan Reddy for their efforts.
The operation was carried out by CI S. Chandrashekar Goud, SI N. Srinivas, Head Constable Mallikarjun, and Constables Srikanth, Sai Kumar, Prasad, Gopal, Naveen, Taruni, and Raj Thakur.
