Major boost for Telangana’s pharma ecosystem

The decision follows a meeting between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and the company’s global leadership team in Hyderabad on Monday. The investment will generate significant employment opportunities for engineers, chemists, analytical scientists, and quality professionals.

Eli Lilly’s move comes two months after it inaugurated its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad on August 4, marking its second major commitment to the state. Despite interest from other states, the company chose Telangana citing its skilled talent pool, robust infrastructure, and proactive government support.

Focus on next-generation medicines

The new facilities will enable manufacturing and global supply of medicines to treat diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and autoimmune disorders. Recruitment for various roles in Hyderabad will begin immediately.

“This investment reaffirms Eli Lilly’s confidence in India as a hub for capability building within our global network,” said Patrik Jonsson, Executive Vice President and President, Lilly International.

CM assures full government support

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy thanked the delegation, promising full government backing for future expansions. “Indira Gandhi’s initiative in 1965 is the reason Hyderabad stands as a hub of bulk drug manufacturing,” he said, recalling the establishment of Indian Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (IDPL).

“Telangana means business. Hyderabad is a global city. Our government will support and welcome all industries looking to invest here,” he added.

Industries Minister Sridhar Babu said the expansion was “a testament to Telangana’s dynamic industrial landscape and its growing role in advanced healthcare manufacturing.”

The Chief Minister also highlighted upcoming plans for a new Advanced Technology Centre (ATC) at Genome Valley and the inclusion of leading pharma entrepreneurs on the Board of Governors of the Young India Skills University, chaired by Anand Mahindra.
