Elderly couple killed, one injured in Yakutpura house fire
Yakutpura: A massive fire broke out at a residence at Rein Bazaar in Yakutpura on Monday night, resulting in the tragic deaths of an elderly couple and leaving a 16-year-old girl battling for her life.
The deceased have been identified as 55-year-old Heera Mohan Lal and his 50-year-old wife, Usha Rani. Their family member, Sruthi, sustained serious injuries and has been transferred to a private hospital for treatment.
According to the reports, the couple and Sruthi were on the first floor of their home when the fire started while they were preparing food. An overheated pan of edible oil is believed to have sparked the blaze, which rapidly spread through the house. The flames subsequently ignited firecrackers stored for sale in the Yakutpura area, making the situation worse.
Upon witnessing the incident, locals alerted emergency services, which were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters managed to rescue Mohan Lal, Usha Rani, and Sruthi, who were then rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, the couple was pronounced dead upon arrival.
In response to the emergency, local police evacuated residents from neighbouring buildings as a precaution. An investigation into the incident has been launched, and a case has been registered.
