HMDA to Distribute One Lakh Clay Ganesh Idols
Initiative to Promote Eco-Friendly Celebrations
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has announced that it will distribute one lakh clay Ganesh idols free of cost at 34 locations across Hyderabad. The initiative, running from August 24 to August 26, 2025, aims to encourage citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices during Ganesh Chaturthi.
Since 2017, HMDA has been promoting the use of clay idols to reduce the impact of Plaster of Paris idols on water bodies. Officials said this year’s distribution of 8-inch idols also carries the message of reducing plastic use and protecting the environment.
Distribution Across the City
The idols will be available at public locations such as Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Begumpet, Madhapur, Kukatpally, Secunderabad, Ameerpet, Saroornagar, Vanasthalipuram, and several other neighbourhoods. In addition to fixed centres, mobile distribution points are being arranged at gated communities and residential welfare associations.
HMDA officials, engineers, and supervisory teams have been assigned to monitor the process at each location. Citizens can collect the idols free of charge during the three-day distribution drive.
