Monsoon hits Telangana 15 days early; CM Revanth Reddy reviews paddy procurement
Hyderabad: In a high-level video conference with ministers, senior officials, and district collectors, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on May 27, 2025, reviewed paddy procurement progress, early monsoon preparedness, and key welfare schemes. The meeting, held at the Hyderabad Command Control Center, addressed urgent issues including public health risks, agricultural readiness, housing initiatives, and misinformation around ongoing efforts.
Record Paddy Procurement Amid Early Monsoon
The Chief Minister noted that the monsoon has arrived 15 days earlier than usual this year, bringing 29% more rainfall than normal. Despite the weather challenges, the state has procured a record 64.5 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, surpassing last year’s 42 lakh tonnes, with 90% of procurement already completed. An additional 4–5 lakh tonnes are expected to be collected.
Revanth Reddy congratulated collectors and officials for the achievement and assured farmers that the government is committed to buying every grain. ₹12,184 crore has already been paid to farmers, with funds transferred to their accounts within 48 hours of procurement. He directed collectors to address remaining procurement challenges with urgency, including hiring local godowns and deploying more transport if needed.
Health and Rain Preparedness
With the early onset of monsoon, Revanth Reddy warned of increased seasonal health risks. He asked health officials to remain alert, especially in forest and agency areas. COVID-19 cases have been reported in neighboring states, and districts were advised to take preventive measures accordingly.
He also instructed all departments in Hyderabad and other urban areas, including GHMC, police, electricity, and traffic, to coordinate efforts to prevent waterlogging, power outages, and traffic disruptions. The Chief Secretary will monitor the rainfall situation across the state.
Focus on Agriculture Inputs and Fake Seeds
With kharif season approaching, agriculture officials were directed to stay alert. Seeds and fertilizers are already stocked, and district collectors were asked to conduct daily reviews of local needs and buffer stocks. Strict action, including invoking the PD Act, will be taken against those selling fake seeds or black-marketing inputs. Awareness campaigns will be launched to educate farmers on counterfeit seeds.
The CM highlighted the need to raise awareness about the new Bhu Bharathi land law, which he described as a farmer-friendly alternative to the previous Dharani system. The third phase of Revenue Conferences will be held from June 3 to 20. These sessions should be used to promote the law and resolve land issues. Special monitoring officers will be appointed in each district.
Revanth Reddy called the Indiramma housing program a flagship initiative and urged collectors to ensure effective implementation. Final beneficiary lists must be prepared by the end of May. He called for mandal-level price control committees to regulate construction costs and ensure the timely distribution of free sand coupons. Loans for brick and centering units will be facilitated under the Indira Mahila Shakti and Rajiv Yuva Vikasam schemes. Collectors were instructed to promote new construction technologies, show model homes in mandal centers, and update progress through a dedicated app.
District Tours and Telangana Formation Day
District-in-charge ministers are scheduled to tour their regions on May 29 and 30 to review paddy procurement, Bhu Bharathi implementation, kharif crop preparedness, and housing progress. A full report must be submitted to the Chief Minister by June 1. A follow-up meeting with ministers will be held at the Secretariat the same day to decide on next steps. The CM also called for grand celebrations of Telangana Formation Day on June 2 across all districts.
The conference was attended by Deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Seethakka, Damodara Raja Narasimha, CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and all district collectors.
