Hyderabad: A special E-Shram Registration Camp was held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) to extend social security benefits to the unorganized sector on Thursday. The camp targeted gig and platform workers, specifically the thousands of cab drivers operating from the airport's free parking zones.

The camp saw active participation from drivers associated with major ride-hailing platforms like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. These drivers form the backbone of passenger mobility at the airport, making the location a strategic hub for ensuring maximum enrollment in the government's flagship portal.

Speaking at the event, M. R. Deshpandye, Regional Directorate Incharge of DTNBWED Hyderabad, emphasized the importance of the collaborative effort. “This drive at one of India’s busiest airports demonstrates our shared commitment to enhancing worker welfare and social inclusion. Through e-Shram, gig and platform workers will be connected to social security coverage and government schemes that safeguard their future,” he stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Shaik Salauddin, Founder President of Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union(TGPWU), said, “Gig and platform workers are essential to keeping our cities moving. This camp is a vital step forward in ensuring dignity, security, and rights for the drivers and delivery partners who work tirelessly.”

The E-Shram portal is a critical initiative aimed at creating a centralized database of unorganized workers, including app-based gig workers. Registration enables them to access a range of social security benefits, welfare schemes, and insurance protections provided by the government.

The initiative was organized by The Dattopant Thengadi National Board for Workers Education and Development (DTNBWED), an autonomous body under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, in collaboration with the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers’ Union (TGPWU) and with the support of GMR RGIA Airport Management.

The E-Shram Registration Drive will continue from 25th August to 5th September 2025 across Telangana. Specifically, at RGIA Airport, special camps will be held from 3rd to 5th September 2025, ensuring maximum participation of cab drivers and other gig workers operating from the airport.
