Drunk driver in Audi hits and injures woman sub inspector in Sangareddy
Hyderabad: A woman Sub Inspector (SI) was injured after being struck by a car driven by an allegedly intoxicated man while conducting a drunk-driving check at Jinnaram mandal headquarters in Sangareddy district on Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025.
SI Nagalakshmi and her team were carrying out routine checks when they attempted to stop an Audi car. However, the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit Nagalakshmi.
Other police personnel chased the car and apprehended the driver after a short pursuit. The driver was taken into custody, and the injured SI was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The car, registered under AP12 P0003, was abandoned by the driver a short distance from the scene. It is now in police custody.
To further address the issue of drunk driving, the Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special drive over the weekend of March 29, 2025. During the operation, 222 offenders were apprehended. The drive resulted in the seizure of 163 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, 48 four-wheelers, and 2 heavy vehicles.
Among the individuals, 13 had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging from 200 mg/100 ml to 500 mg/100 ml, while 5 individuals recorded BAC levels above 500 mg/100 ml.
All accused will be presented before the court for further legal action. The police reiterated their firm stance on drunk driving, warning that those responsible for fatal accidents while intoxicated would face severe legal consequences.
Under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, individuals causing fatal accidents due to drunk driving could face charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, with penalties including up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from driving under the influence of alcohol to help prevent accidents and ensure public safety.
