DRF clears floodwaters & debris; HYDRAA chief acts on encroachments across Hyderabad
Hyderabad: On April 3, 2025, Hyderabad experienced heavy rains and thunderstorms, which caused fallen trees and accumulated floodwaters throughout the city. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) responded swiftly, clearing debris and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
The agency's Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams worked on a war-footing to remove fallen trees blocking roads. Notable locations such as Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Saidabad, Basheerbagh, Necklace Road, Musheerabad, Assembly Road, and Banjara Hills saw prompt action. A tree that had fallen near the Khairatabad Somajiguda RTA office was cleared in just 40 minutes.
Floodwaters, reaching knee-deep levels in areas like Old Alwal, LB Nagar, Begumpet, Madhapur, and Mehdipatnam, were also drained by the DRF teams.
Commissioner Inspects Encroachment Issues
HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath conducted a series of on-site inspections following complaints of land encroachments and illegal quarrying activities. On Thursday, he visited government lands in Gajularamaram, Quthbullapur Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, where lease agreements had expired but encroachment attempts were reported.
Ranganath also inspected government land near the State Finance Corporation and directed officials to prevent further encroachments on the approximately 400 acres of land. A meeting with leaseholders of 78 acres has been scheduled for next week.
Additionally, the Commissioner reviewed concerns about encroachment near the Nallagandla lake nala in Serilingampally Mandal. He instructed Vertex Construction Company to remove soil blocking the expansion of the nala, ensuring the proper maintenance of its dimensions and buffer zone.
Ranganath further inspected complaints about encroachments in the Mellakunta area of Gopannapally village and the Mamasani Kunta pond in Puppalaguda, Rajendranagar Mandal. He directed officials to take necessary actions to preserve the boundaries of both the pond and the nala.
