Hyderabad: Next time you walk your dog in public places such as roads, walking tracks, parks, and footpaths, make sure the pet animal does not litter the surroundings. As a dog owner, you will be penalized by the authorities.

According to the latest circular issued by the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration (CDMA), Telangana, any dog owner who lets his pet defecate or relieve itself in public places will have to pay a penalty of up to Rs. 1,000. The circular added that the directive will be enforceable in the urban local bodies (ULBs) across the state.

The CDMA Commissioner TK Sridevi has sent the circular to the authorities within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits (except GHMC) and directed them to implement it. As per rules, dog owners are required to clean the poop of their pets in public places.

The official stated that frequent complaints from citizens about the littering of public places such as parks and footpaths with dog poops have prompted them to come up with this initiative and to discourage dog owners from leaving the dog poop without cleaning it.

The dog owners may avoid the penalty if they choose to clear the dog poop in public places. If the authorities find the pet owners letting their animals defecate and not cleaning up, they will impose a fine on them. The civic bodies in major cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Pune, Indore, and Nagpur have already implemented the rule.
