Gachibowli’s DLF food street to relocate as authorities plan road widening
Hyderabad: DLF Food Street in Gachibowli is one of the popular night-time food hubs in Hyderabad. The food street is a go-to place for IT professionals and other employees in the IT corridor area.
Foodies are set to miss the hustle and bustle of DLF street food outlets in Gachibowli as authorities gear up to clear the one-kilometre stretch as part of an ongoing road expansion project in the IT corridor.
The traffic police were having a hard time regulating vehicular traffic in Gachibowli's DLF food street as a huge influx of people to over 200-odd stalls has been causing significant traffic congestion in the area, forcing most of the commuters to travel via the IIIT junction towards Miyapur.
As more road users choose this alternate route, the wait time at the junction has crossed one minute during the non-peak hours while it has increased to three minutes during the rush hours — 8.30 am to 11.30 am and 5 pm to 8 pm.
With vehicular traffic increasing by the day, authorities have decided to expand the roads to regulate traffic flow. Officials have informed shop owners and vendors about the planned closure. Road expansion works are expected to commence within a month and will continue over a month or two.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) is preparing to shift the DLF Food Street vendors to an open ground located at the end of the ITC Kohenur Road. The street vendors will be allotted designated spaces in the coming weeks.
