Tap water turns discoloured in Begumpet, Residents raise concerns
Hyderabad: Residents of Chikoti Gardens in Begumpet have raised serious concerns over the quality of tap water, reporting that it has turned discoloured and emits a strong chemical smell. The issue has persisted for over 24 hours without resolution, despite complaints being filed with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
The matter came to light after journalist Paul Oommen posted a complaint on X (formerly Twitter), sharing a picture of the discoloured water. In his post, he questioned the safety of the water, stating, “Colour of water coming from the tap in Chikoti Gardens, Begumpet. The water is reeking of chemicals. How is this water safe to use? 24 hours since this started and no resolution as yet.”
Responding to the complaint, HMWSSB requested Oommen’s Customer Account Number (CAN), door number, and contact details to process the grievance. After receiving the information, the board confirmed that the issue was registered under complaint number 2539 and escalated to the concerned officials, including the Prakashnagar Section Manager.
In an official reply, HMWSSB said, “This is to inform you that complaint no. 2539 has been escalated to the concerned officials. We appreciate your patience and will keep you updated on the progress.”
Several other residents in the area have reportedly experienced similar issues, raising concerns about water safety and the delay in corrective action.
