Hyderabad: A group of diecast car collectors gathered in Hyderabad for a meet on December 1, 2024, at the Wild Goat Cafe in Madhapur. The event, held from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., saw around 25 members from various age groups, ranging from 15 to 50 years, showcase their collections and passion for miniature cars.

Vamsi Krishna, a doctor by profession and a diecast car collector by hobby, shared his experience with Hyderabad Mail. "Most of the attendees collect 1:64 scale cars, and the group gathers twice a year," he said. "In addition to the cars, we also display parking lots and plan to include 1:64 human figurines as well."

Collectors at the meet displayed a wide range of models, including 1:18, 1:43 scale cars, vintage and classic cars, sports cars, and even vehicles from popular movie franchises like James Bond and Batman. The group has been active for five years, with Vamsi joining just five months ago after discovering it on Reddit and Facebook.

Diecast cars, which have become a popular hobby among collectors, are miniature models made through a die-casting process. Molten metal is poured into molds to create detailed replicas of real vehicles. Popular brands among collectors include Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and Maisto.

These cars, valued for their craftsmanship and attention to detail, can range from simple toys to highly sought-after collector’s items. Many collectors focus on rare or limited-edition models, keeping them in pristine condition or displaying them as valuable collectibles due to their connection to real-world vehicles.

The next meetup is tentatively planned for June 2025.
