Dense fog engulfs Hyderabad & Telangana; Cold wave to end soon

Hyderabad experienced a second consecutive day of dense fog, covering East and North Hyderabad as well as East and South Telangana districts. The fog is attributed to high temperature inversion effects and is expected to persist for another two days, according to the Telangana Weatherman. The cold wave is expected to continue until January 25-26, but a sudden heat wave is anticipated between January 25 and February 4, with temperatures reaching 35-36°C. Despite the heat wave, La Nina conditions are predicted to continue into early February, potentially leading to unseasonal rainfall in the first half of the month. The coming weeks are expected to see significant variations in weather patterns, with a stark contrast in temperature and weather conditions throughout February.

Telangana Weatherman (@balaji25_t) took to social media, reporting that the dense fog would clear in the next 1-2 hours. He also mentioned that similar fog conditions are expected for the next two days in the mornings. “Drive carefully on highways,” he advised, adding that this was the second consecutive day of dense fog in East and North Hyderabad.

In response to a query about when the cold wave would end in Hyderabad, the weather expert replied, “Enjoy the last leg of winters, as this kind of weather won’t return soon. Heat will increase from the first week of February.”

The fog was caused by high temperature inversion effects in North Hyderabad the previous day but cleared within an hour.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad, the forecast for January 24, 2025, includes a partly cloudy sky and fog or mist during the morning hours. Maximum temperatures are expected to reach around 32°C, with minimum temperatures around 17°C. Surface winds will be from the east or southeast at speeds of 4-8 km/h.

The Telangana Weatherman also shared his observations based on five years of weather blogging, noting that January 2025 has been the coldest since 2020. He predicted that strong winter conditions will persist until January 25-26.

However, he also cautioned that a sudden heat wave would begin between January 25 and February 4, with temperatures expected to reach 35-36°C. Despite this, La Nina conditions are expected to continue into early February, which could lead to unseasonal rainfall in the first half of the month.

“This period needs careful observation,” he said, adding that significant variations in weather patterns are anticipated over the next three weeks. He also noted that weather will remain dry until January 31.

The coming weeks could see a stark contrast in temperature and weather conditions, with extreme variations expected throughout February.
