DCA seizes illegal veterinary drug stock worth Rs. 2.5 lakh in Warangal
Hyderabad: The Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, carried out two separate raids in Warangal and Kumuram Bheem Asifabad districts, on May 26, 2025, seizing unlicensed veterinary drugs and confiscating an Ayurvedic product being promoted with misleading health claims.
26 types of veterinary drugs seized from Girmajipet shop
Acting on credible information, DCA officials raided a medical shop named Saikiran Poultry and Vet Medicals in Girmajipet, Warangal. The premises, located at Old Grain Market Area, Shutter No. 1 and 3, were found to be operating without a valid drug licence, a violation under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
During the raid, 26 varieties of veterinary medicines, valued at ₹2.5 lakhs, were seized. The shop was found to be illegally stocking drugs for sale without the required licensing, which is a punishable offence under the Act, carrying imprisonment of up to five years. The raid was conducted by J. Kiran Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal, under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director. Samples were lifted for analysis and further investigation is underway.
The DCA reminded wholesalers and dealers that supplying medicines to unlicensed shops is also a punishable offence. All suppliers are required to verify that buyers possess a valid drug licence.
Misleading advertisement leads to seizure of ayurvedic medicine in Asifabad
In a separate action on the same day, DCA officials seized stocks of an Ayurvedic medicine, PLATOCORE-TOTAL Syrup, from a medical store in Kaghaznagar, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad District. The product label falsely claimed that it is “helpful in all kinds of Flu and Fever,” a claim prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The Act restricts advertisements for drugs that claim to treat certain diseases and conditions, including fever in general. Medicines such as paracetamol may reduce symptoms like fever but do not treat the underlying cause, making such blanket claims misleading and unlawful.
The syrup was manufactured by Ultra Green (UNIT-I), Panchkula, Haryana, and marketed by Biocore Pharmaceuticals, Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The raid was conducted by G. Aswani, Drugs Inspector, Asifabad, under the supervision of M. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, Karimnagar. Legal proceedings are in progress. Persons found guilty of publishing or promoting misleading advertisements for medicines face imprisonment of up to six months, a fine, or both.
DCA Director General Shahnawaz Qasim urged citizens to report any illegal activity related to the manufacture or sale of drugs, including narcotics and psychotropic substances. Complaints can be lodged through the DCA’s toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on working days.
