Hyderabad: Officials from the Drugs Control Administration (DCA), Telangana, conducted a raid at the Global Animal Hospital near Axis Bank, Bollaram Road, Kompally, Dundigal Gandimaisamma Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, following credible information regarding the illegal stocking and sale of medicines. The raid revealed that the facility was operating without a valid drug license.

During the operation, DCA officers discovered a large number of unauthorised medicines, including 41 varieties of drugs, such as antibiotics, which were being stored for sale. The seized stock, valued at Rs. 50,000, was confiscated during the raid.

The raid was carried out by M. Hemalatha, Drugs Inspector, Gandimaisamma, and M. Sreebindu, Drugs Inspector, Bachupally, under the supervision of G. Sreenivas, Assistant Director, Medchal. Samples of the seized medicines were sent for analysis, and further investigations are underway.

According to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, stocking and selling drugs without a valid license is a punishable offense, with penalties that could include imprisonment for up to five years. The DCA has warned that wholesalers and dealers who supply medicines to unlicensed entities will also face strict action under the law.

V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, Director General of the DCA, highlighted the importance of ensuring that recipients of medicines hold valid drug licenses before distribution. He urged the public to report any suspected illegal activities related to drugs, including the manufacture of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, through the DCA's toll-free helpline at 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all working days.

Further legal action will be taken against all accused involved in this illegal operation.
