Cyberabad Traffic Police nabbed 329 drunk drivers in weekend crackdown

Hyderabad: In a stringent weekend enforcement drive, the Cyberabad Traffic Police apprehended 329 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol. The special operation, aimed at curbing drunk driving, revealed alarming trends, with some offenders recording blood alcohol levels nearly five times the legal limit.

Cyberabad Traffic Police released statistics showing that two-wheelers led the count with 248. Four-wheelers followed with 54, then three-wheelers with 23, and heavy vehicles had 4.

Of the offenders, 283 had a BAC between 35 and 200 mg/100 ml (legal limit: 30 mg/100 ml). Also, 37 registered levels from 201 to 300 mg/100 ml. Finally, 9 had dangerously high levels, ranging from 301 to 500 mg/100 ml, according to official data.

Legal Consequences

Cyberabad Police reiterate that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. "If someone drives while drunk and causes a fatal accident, they will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder). The maximum punishment under this section is 10 years of imprisonment along with a fine," read the statement released by Cyberabad Traffic Police.

Public Advisory

Cyberabad Police urged citizens to avoid drinking and driving, emphasizing that even "mild" intoxication impairs judgment. "Road safety is a shared responsibility. One reckless decision can cost lives," officials stated.
