Cyberabad Traffic Police catch 268 drunk drivers in weekend operation
Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on drunk driving, the Cyberabad Traffic Police (CTP) apprehended 268 violators over the weekend of February 7, 2025. The operation, aimed at curbing the growing menace of impaired driving, resulted in the seizure of 223 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, 33 four-wheelers, and 2 trucks.
Of those apprehended, 35 had blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging from 200 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. All violators will be presented before the court for further action.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police have issued a stern warning to those driving under the influence, stating that individuals involved in fatal accidents while intoxicated will face arrest and prosecution under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder). This section carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine.
In a statement, the CTP urged all motorists to abide by traffic laws and prioritize road safety, stressing that such enforcement drives are critical to protecting citizens from the dangers posed by drunk driving.
In a similar crackdown on November 3, 2025, Cyberabad traffic police apprehended 513 individuals over the weekend. The drive, which started at 2 p.m. on Friday and ended at 6 a.m. on Sunday, resulted in the seizure of 425 two-wheelers, 24 three-wheelers, 60 four-wheelers, and four heavy vehicles. Breathalyzer tests revealed 64 offenders with BAC levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml.
