Cyberabad police urge public vigilance to prevent Summer thefts
Hyderabad: With Summer vacations underway and many families heading out of town, Cyberabad police are urging residents to stay alert and take necessary precautions to prevent thefts and burglaries. Homes left unoccupied during the holiday season are often targeted by criminals, making it essential for residents to be proactive about security.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Crimes, LC Naik, advised citizens to inform their local police station about their departure and return dates if they plan to lock their homes. This information can help the police keep an eye on unoccupied houses during regular patrolling. Installing a central locking system and a security alarm with motion sensors can also enhance safety.
The police recommend keeping two-wheelers inside the compound, securely locked and, if possible, fastened with wheel chains. Hiring reliable watchmen or security guards is encouraged, especially in independent houses or gated communities. Closed-circuit cameras should be installed at entry and exit points, and the digital video recorder (DVR) should be stored securely. Remote monitoring of footage is also advised.
Residents are also urged not to leave garbage bags, milk packets, or newspapers at their doorstep, as such signs can alert potential burglars to an empty home. Curtains should be drawn over locked doors to block outside visibility, and some lights should be left on both inside and outside the house to give the impression of occupancy.
Trusted neighbors should be informed about travel plans so they can help keep an eye on the property. It’s important not to leave keys in easily accessible places like shoe racks, under pillows, or in drawers. Police also advised against parking in dark, isolated areas and instead recommended choosing busy, well-lit locations.
Communities are encouraged to form local safety committees and maintain a register of visitors, particularly during night hours. Coordinating with local police for night patrolling can further strengthen neighborhood security. Residents should also keep contact numbers of nearby police stations and beat constables easily accessible.
Lastly, police strongly advise against sharing travel plans on social media platforms like WhatsApp, Instagram, or Facebook, as this information can reach unintended audiences. Travel details should only be shared with trusted individuals.
Anyone noticing suspicious activity is urged to call the police immediately by dialing 100, contacting the Cyberabad Police Control Room at 9490617100, or messaging the WhatsApp number 9490617444.
