Cyberabad Police announces online loudspeaker license application process

Cyberabad Police in Hyderabad have announced a new online application process for loudspeaker licenses, replacing the old manual system. This follows a city-wide ban on high-volume sound systems and firecrackers during religious processions, implemented by the Hyderabad City Police in October 2024. This ban was prompted by increasing complaints from residents about noise pollution and safety concerns during religious festivals, which often attract large crowds. The ban aims to reduce health risks associated with loud music and firecrackers, including hearing loss, stress, and potential fire hazards. It also aims to maintain public order and minimize disruption to residents, particularly children and the elderly. The police have imposed specific decibel limits for sound systems and will take legal action against violators, including fines and imprisonment. This notification applies to all religious processions in Hyderabad.

Earlier, Hyderabad City Police Commissioner C.V. Anand announced on October 1, 2024, a complete ban on the use of DJ sound systems, mixers, amplifiers, and other high-sound-generating equipment during religious processions. The use of firecrackers during these events was also prohibited to curb noise pollution and reduce health risks.

This decision followed increasing complaints from residents about the adverse effects of loud music and firecrackers during the city's numerous religious festivals. These festivals often attract large crowds, resulting in disturbances that impact the health and well-being of residents, especially the elderly and children. A significant incident highlighting the risks occurred at Charminar, where sparks from firecrackers nearly caused a fire during a procession. Fortunately, the situation was controlled without major consequences.

Commissioner Anand highlighted the health risks of loud music and firecrackers, including hearing loss, high blood pressure, and mental stress. The excessive noise also disrupts residential areas and the education of children, while leading to law and order issues due to the unchecked enthusiasm among youth during these events.

To address these concerns, the police imposed specific decibel limits on sound systems. The regulations mandate that sound levels be kept within certain limits based on the area, with stricter rules for silence zones around hospitals and schools. Violations will result in legal action, including fines and imprisonment for repeat offenders. This notification has been effective immediately and applies to all religious processions within Hyderabad.
