306 booked for drunk driving in Cyberabad over the weekend
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 306 individuals for drunk driving during a special enforcement drive conducted over the weekend. The checks were aimed at curbing incidents of driving under the influence across the city. A total of 306 vehicles were seized during the operation. These included 246 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, 50 four-wheelers and 1 heavy vehicle. All individuals apprehended were male.
The age-wise distribution of the individuals revealed that the majority were in the 21 to 30 and 31 to 40 age groups, with 114 and 113 cases respectively. Other age groups included 4 individuals aged 18 to 20, 53 aged 41 to 50, 20 aged 51 to 60 and 2 individuals above the age of 60. No minors were involved.
In terms of alcohol levels, 274 individuals had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) between 35 mg per 100 ml and 200 mg per 100 ml. Another 26 recorded BAC levels between 201 mg per 100 ml and 300 mg per 100 ml, while 6 were found with BAC levels ranging from 301 mg per 100 ml to 500 mg per 100 ml.
All the accused will be produced before the court for further legal proceedings. The Cyberabad Traffic Police have cautioned that those found driving under the influence and causing a fatal accident will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The offence carries a maximum punishment of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.
