362 caught for drunk driving in Cyberabad over weekend drive
Hyderabad: A special drunk driving enforcement drive conducted by the Cyberabad Traffic Police over the weekend of June 6 and 7 led to the apprehension of 362 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol. All of those caught were male.
According to officials, the majority of cases involved two-wheelers, accounting for 260 vehicles. There were 24 cases involving three-wheelers, 73 involving four-wheelers, and five involving heavy vehicles.
Based on blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels, 316 individuals recorded readings between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Thirty were found with BAC levels between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, while 16 individuals had readings between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml.
Age-wise, the highest number of cases were reported among those aged 31 to 40 years, with 141 individuals. This was followed by 123 individuals aged between 21 and 30, and 74 individuals between 41 and 50. Seventeen individuals were between 51 and 60 years old, and four were above 61. Three individuals were in the 18 to 20 age group. No minors were involved. All those caught will be produced before the court.
Cyberabad Police have reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. In cases where such behaviour leads to a fatal accident, the individuals involved will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The maximum punishment under this section is ten years of imprisonment along with a fine. The police have urged citizens to drive responsibly and help ensure road safety for all.
