272 booked for drunk driving in Cyberabad during weekend special drive
Hyderabad: As part of a weekend special drive, the Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 272 individuals for drunk driving. The enforcement effort aimed to curb traffic violations and ensure road safety across the region.
During the operation, police seized a total of 189 two-wheelers, 12 auto-rickshaws, 66 cars, and 5 heavy vehicles. All those caught were found driving under the influence of alcohol and will be produced before the court.
Of the total, 245 individuals were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 18 had BAC levels between 200 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml. Nine individuals registered BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml.
Police have issued a stern warning that those who cause fatal accidents while driving under the influence will face serious consequences. Such offenders will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The section carries a maximum penalty of 10 years imprisonment along with a fine.
All 272 individuals booked were male. In terms of age distribution, 3 individuals were between 18–20 years, 97 were aged 21–30, 111 were between 31–40, 48 were aged 41–50, 12 were between 51–60, and 1 offender was above 61 years. No minors were apprehended during the drive.
The Cyberabad Traffic Police stated that such drives will continue in the future to deter drunk driving and enhance public safety on the roads.
