252 booked for drunk driving in Cyberabad over the weekend
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic Police conducted a special drunk driving drive over the weekend, during which 252 individuals were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. As part of the enforcement, police seized 199 two-wheelers, 10 three-wheelers, and 43 four-wheelers. No heavy vehicles were seized during the operation.
Among those booked, 228 individuals had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Eighteen others had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while six were found with dangerously high BAC levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml.
The age-wise distribution of the individuals shows that a majority were in the 21–40 age group. Three were between 18 and 20 years old, 92 were in the 21–30 age group, and 87 were between 31 and 40. Another 54 were aged between 41 and 50, while 11 were between 51 and 60. Five individuals were aged 61 and above. No minors were caught during the drive.
All 252 individuals will be produced before the Court. The Cyberabad Traffic Police have urged motorists to avoid drunk driving, warning that it endangers not only the driver but also others on the road. In cases where drunk driving leads to a fatal accident, the accused will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison along with a fine.
In a similar drive conducted the previous weekend (May 17–18), 306 individuals were booked for drunk driving. During that operation, 306 vehicles were seized, including 246 two-wheelers, 9 three-wheelers, 50 four-wheelers, and 1 heavy vehicle. All those apprehended in that drive were male.
