Hyderabad Police Chief C.V. Anand wins top Anti-Narcotics Award at Dubai Police Summit
Hyderabad: C.V. Anand, Director General and Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad, representing the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW), has been awarded first place in the "Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award" category at the World Police Summit (WPS) 2025, hosted by Dubai Police from May 13 to May 16.
The award was presented at a ceremony held today at the Dubai Police Officers Club. The recognition comes in acknowledgment of H-NEW’s efforts to curb drug trafficking and consumption in Hyderabad over the past three years, along with its awareness programs targeting students and the wider community within the city.
Commissioner Anand expressed satisfaction at Hyderabad Police’s recognition on a global stage. “Police officers from 138 countries participated in the summit. Competing with some of the most capable forces in the world and winning this award is a proud moment for H-NEW and for the Telangana Police,” he said.
He credited the achievement to the hard work of his team and the systematic approach adopted by H-NEW, which included enforcement, awareness, and rehabilitation efforts. Anand noted that the award highlights the effectiveness of the comprehensive strategy used to address the growing threat of narcotics in the city. A total of 12 officers and teams from 12 countries were awarded first prizes across various law enforcement categories during the summit.
Earlier in a panel discussion, Anand spoke about the rise in narcotics-related issues in India, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He detailed how drugs are entering the country, the networks of traffickers being dismantled, and measures taken to monitor educational institutions through anti-drug committees and campaigns. He also touched on rehabilitation initiatives for those affected. The award places Hyderabad Police among the leading global agencies in the field of narcotics control.
