Hyderabad: A crocodile sighting along the Musi River has once again alarmed residents, this time near Chaitanyapuri. The reptile was reportedly seen near a temple located in Phanigiri Colony, Kothapet. Locals who noticed the animal immediately informed the police, following which forest department officials were alerted.
The forest department team reached the spot shortly after receiving the information. However, they stated that capturing the crocodile would be difficult as it remained submerged in the river. Officials explained that unless the animal moves to a more accessible location on land, safely catching it without posing a risk to the public or the animal would be challenging.
In light of the incident, authorities have placed warning banners and signs along the Musi River stretch in the affected area to caution residents and passersby. People have been advised not to venture close to the riverbank, especially during early morning or evening hours when visibility is low.
This incident is not an isolated one. Crocodile sightings in the Musi River have been reported in the past. A similar case occurred earlier near Asad Baba Nagar in Kishanbagh, where a crocodile was spotted close to human settlements. In that incident, residents claimed the reptile had been attacking goats that strayed too close to the water.
The recurrence of such sightings has raised serious concerns about safety in the areas surrounding the river. People living nearby have demanded that authorities take stronger and more permanent measures to prevent such dangerous wildlife from entering residential zones. Many are worried, especially for children and livestock, who may unknowingly approach the river.
Forest officials continue to monitor the situation and have assured residents that they are prepared to act if the crocodile comes closer to land. However, they have not given a definite timeline for capture or relocation.
